Dress Code

THE DRESS CODE IS TO BE FOLLOWED EVERYDAY.  The dress code consists of the following:

 

For Boys:

Pants:

ü      Solid navy or solid khaki pants

(Pants are to be correct size to fit student waist or frame. Oversized, baggy pants are not allowed.  Jeans, denim, are not permitted)

            Appropriate lengths for boys: knee or trouser      

Outer shirts:

ü      A solid white or solid navy shirt with collar, polo shirt, or turtleneck, or a Midtown Academy logo shirt

ü      Solid navy, gray, or white sweater, vest, sweatshirt, or a Midtown Academy logo sweatshirt

Undershirts:

ü       Solid white or navy only

 

Boys must have shirts tucked in at all times in the building. 

 

For Girls:

Pants/Skirts:

ü      Solid navy or solid khaki pants, jumpers, or skirts

(Pants are to be correct size to fit student waist and frame.  Oversized, baggy pants and tight fitting pants/skirts are not allowed.  Jeans, denim, are not permitted.)

      Appropriate lengths for girls: Capri, knee, or trouser

      *Skirts must be knee length or longer

      It is recommended that girls wear shorts under dresses, jumpers or skirts

Outer shirts:

ü      A solid white or solid navy blouse with collar, polo shirt, or turtleneck, or Midtown Academy logo shirt

ü      Solid navy, gray, or white sweater, vest, sweatshirt, or a Midtown Academy logo sweatshirt

Undershirts

Solid white or solid navy only  

 

 Girls’ shirts must cover midriff and back at all times.

 

 

Accessories:

ü      Functional hair accessories, such as hair bands that prevent hair from falling in a child’s face.

ü      No coats worn in the building (A student must wear dress code approved sweater or sweatshirt for warmth, if needed.)

ü      No hoods on shirts, sweatshirts, vest, or sweaters inside the school building

ü      Post earrings only- no parts of the earring may hang or hoop!

ü      Socks or tights worn with skirts will be solid white, solid navy, or solid gray

   How do I know if I am in compliance with the professional dress code?

If I don’t see it in the approved dress code, I won’t wear it!

 

List of common items that ARE NOT permitted:

 

x      Flip flops, sandals, or crocs

x      Shoes without socks

x      Shoes with wheels

x      Tank or sleeveless tops

x      Pants with elastic cuffs

x      Sunglasses (indoors)

x      Scarves, headbands or hats (indoors) Head coverings are permitted for religious or medical reasons only.

 

x      Jeans

x      Revealing clothing (see-through, halter tops, tight clothing, etc.)

x      Prints, plaid, stripes, or patterns on clothing

x      Perfume or aftershave

x      Jewelry (other than post earrings)

x      Makeup

x      Patches, designs, frayed bottoms, holes or objects stuck in clothing

 

 

 

Parents of students out of dress code will be contacted to bring code compliant clothing before the student may enter his/her classroom.*   If emergency circumstances prevent a parent from bringing dress code clothing, the school will try to provide your child with code appropriate clothing for the day.**  When the borrowed clothing is returned, clean and pressed, the student’s original clothing will be returned. 

* Noncompliant accessories will be turned in to staff and returned to the student’s parent. 

      **To support our efforts to assure that every student is dress code compliant and in the classroom, please donate dress code clothing to our “Wardrobe”.

 

Dress Code for Martial Arts  (MA) Days:

The Midtown Martial Arts uniform must be worn on MA days:

ü      Warm weather: Midtown MA shirt, plain gray or navy shorts or sweat pants, white socks, athletic shoes.

ü      Cold weather: Midtown MA shirt, plain gray or navy sweat pants, MA belt, white socks, athletic shoes.

ü      Whenever long pants are worn students are required to wear their MA belt.  When students wear shorts a MA belt is optional.  

ü      No stripes, logos, or other decorations should be on pants or shorts.

Special Note to Middle School Students:

You will take a Marital Arts class for one quarter of the school year.  Your class will meet Monday through Thursday.  During that quarter, you will wear a MA uniform to school Monday through Thursday.  On those days, you may wear a solid navy t-shirt in place of your MA shirt if it is unavailable.
